D. Paper and Binding:
1. The paper stock shall meet the requirements of table 1 when tested in accordance with paragraph 4.C. (3).

2. The binding, coverboard, and cover shall be in accordance with good commercial practice.
3. The type of binding shall be either Smith-sewn, side-sewn, press pasted or adhesive or perforation-notch adhesive. For the purpose of this document, press pasted adhesive binding shall mean that adjacent pages of each signature are bonded together using a flexible, durable adhesive and that signature spines are not cut off. The gathered signatures shall also be joined using a flexible, durable adhesive. The adhesive shall be one such that bonded areas cannot be separated without causing damage to those areas. For the purpose of this document, perforation-notch adhesive binding shall mean that the pages in each signature are bonded together using a flexible, durable adhesive which has been applied through special press perforation in the backbone of the signature. In perforation-notch binding, a small amount of paper is removed from the signature spines in the binding process.
